不要因为语言问题而裹足不前
我最喜爱的旅游方式是自助游，约几个“驴友”，自己选择方向，自己设计路线并解决旅行遇到的所有问题。从2009年至今，国外自助走了越南、印度、尼泊尔等地，每次时间20天到一个月。
老年人自助游，在国外来说并不稀罕，如今国内也有一些领风气之先的老年背包客，但毕竟为数较少。我觉得对大多数老年人来说，首先是个观念问题。您有没有走出家门看世界的强烈愿望？愿不愿意挑战自己，把克服困难也当作一种乐趣？
学外语，做准备
除主观愿望之外，也需要具备一些必要的条件，譬如身体和语言。说说语言问题吧。为了自助游，我特别去报读了老年大学的英语口语班，做家务或散步时都听着英语录音。在制定攻略时，会注意浏览一些国外网站，多看原版文章，同时，每次出游前都会准备一份单词表，比如地名、景点名、历史、宗教方面的名词等，并做成中英文对照，行前经常翻看练习。除了看以外，还要念，要能说会听，所以在翻译软件里要听读音，要跟读。
去越南时，我做的是三种文字对照的资料，中文是自己看，英文是讲给懂英文的人听，越语是给不懂英文的当地人看。谁知走到后来大意了，有一天从海防去白雀，乘的是当地巴士，
车子很挤，我与驴友坐在最后一排动弹不得，途中突然想起白雀是不是终点站？如果不是，会有人招呼我们下车吗？问周围乘客，他们英文中文全听不懂，只会微笑摇头。那时天已黑了，车外一片荒凉，准备的三国语言资料也不知丢哪里去了，我们确实感到很无助。打那以后，我们都买了电子词典，尤其在偏离传统路线时更要有所准备。
说到讲外语，我最重视的，是国外的地名。如果地名念不准，你都说不清楚要去哪里，那还有什么可谈？问题是，假如你把翻译过来的地名用普通话字正腔圆地念出来，当地人是听不懂的，比如“泰姬陵”，它实际上应念成“大基迈尔”。在去尼泊尔的飞机上，附近坐着一位尼泊尔青年，我们就把打印的资料拿出来向他请教，原来“加德满都”应读成“科特曼兜”。那个年轻人很好心地把所有地名都给我们标上了尼泊尔文，为了谢他我们赶紧掏出巧克力请他吃。后来遇到事情，我们也常请人把地名和词汇标上当地文字，以便与不懂英文的当地人交流。学会借力
另外，要学会借力。在越南山区徒步时，我们小组有两位东南亚华人姑娘，中文英文都好，同组的东欧驴友英文很差，我若是听不懂，就问华人姑娘：兰心哎，他说的什么？游湄公河时遇见一位马来西亚华人老先生，交流自然也就靠他了。
入乡随俗学当地语言
除英文之外，不妨也入乡随俗学几句当地语言，以便于拉近与当地人民的感情。在印度，你起码应会说“那玛斯黛”，以表示问候，同时最好双手合十在胸前，面带微笑摇头晃脑，这套动作我们甚至对着镜子认真操练过。印度的面饼叫“恰巴蒂”，茶叫“玛莎拉提”，表示认可就说“阿恰”，这些我们都学会了，与印度人交流甚是有趣。
老年朋友们如果有意自助游，我认为首先要克服思想障碍，不要因为语言问题而裹足不前。对于一桩自己真正喜爱的事情，应该舍得付出努力去实现它。
