在一个偏僻的小村里，住着一群穷苦的村民，喜马拉雅姑娘就是其中的一个。村里人都很喜欢她，因为她是一位正直、美丽、善良、品德高尚的好姑娘。
其实，这个村庄以前并不穷，是个好地方。
可是就在几年前的夏天，这里突然下了特别大的雪，整个村庄都被盖住了。
第二天早晨，雪慢慢化了。人们惊奇的发现：他们辛辛苦苦、一砖一瓦盖建的砖房全都变成了脏乱不堪的臭茅草屋；他们去种地，刚把种子撒进泥土里，种子就烂掉了。喜马拉雅姑娘知道，这一切都是雪鬼干的。
于是，她费尽周折，终于在五年后的一天找到了雪鬼。喜马拉雅姑娘要求他把村子变回原来的样子。可是雪鬼一心想把喜马拉雅姑娘占为己有，所以就这样回答她：“当然可以，不过我有个要求，你必须嫁给我。如果你拿到三碗神水，就可以将村子变回了原样，但在50分钟内不回到我的身边，那你就会死在原地变成一座雪山。“哈哈哈... ...”
喜马拉雅姑娘狠狠的瞪了一眼正在狞笑的雪鬼，转身把神水端走了。
她跑到村子里最高的山坡上，小心翼翼地将神水洒到村子里的每一个角落。顷刻间，村子又恢复了原来的样子。
喜马拉雅姑娘兴奋得将三个神碗摞在一起，放到自己的帽子上，扭起腰，跳起了欢快的“顶碗舞。”跳着，跳着，她忘记了时间。五十分钟到了，她像一朵鲜花凋落了似的，突然倒在了地上，慢慢的，她变成了一座高耸入云、巍峨挺拔的雪山。
她就是世界上海拔最高的喜马拉雅山，因为喜马拉雅姑娘舍己为人的崇高品德感动了天地之神，天赐予她比天还高；地赐予她比地还后，所以至今也没有一座山超 过她神圣的高度！
