  Ⅰ. Objectives   Knowledge Aims:   1.Most students can talk about sb’s appearance.
  2.Teaching contents:
  ⑴ New words:
  tall ,short, thin ,heavy ,curly, straight, bald ,blonde, medium build, hair,beard, mustache, captain, team,glasses, look,popular, wear, stop, remember, say, etc.
  ⑵Expressions:
  What do you look like?
  I’m short and I have curly hair
  What do they look like?
  They’re of medium height.
  What does he/she look like?
  He’s heavy and he wears glasses.
  She’s thin and she has long hair
  Ability Aims:
  1. To train the students’ four skills : listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  2. To train the students’ abilities of using the target language to communicate and using them in writing.
  3. To train the students to know the person according to the description of one’s appearance.
  Moral Aims:
  1. Never judge people by their appearances.
  2. Let the students understand others in their communication and know how to appreciate others.
  3. Cultivate the students’ abilities of co-operation with others.
  Cultural Awareness:
  The differences of talking about appearances in eastern and western countries.
  [教学设计] 由于学生在七年级上册已经学过关于“What does he like?”这一特殊疑问句式,具有了学习本单元知识的认知前提,能自然地与本单元话题进行衔接。谈论人的外表形象是人们日常生活中遇到的话题。故学生喜于用英语表达此类话题。根据这一情况教师对教材进行整合、取舍并及时扩充必要材料,设定了这个教学目标。
  Ⅱ. Learning Strategies:
  1. Give students some instructions about self-study by giving them some preview assignments.
  2. Students learn to cooperate with their partners.
  在学法指导上主要通过预习和作业培养学生自学能力,让他们学会学习。同时在与同学合作完成任务的活动中形成合作学习和探究学习的学习方式,引导学生积极思考,善于抓住英语交流的机会。在活动中相互探讨、相互交流、相互合作,从而获得知识、技能和情感体验,发展他们的能力。
  Focuses: new words and expressions.
  Describe one’s appearance.
  词汇量很大,对学生是一个挑战。该怎样去描述一个人是本课的重点也是一个难点。
  Ⅲ. Difficulties: The usage of has and is.
  Describe one’s appearance.
  学生很容易混淆has and is.
  用本课学习的目标语言结合实际生活并进行灵活运用的能力
  Ⅳ. Teaching Aids:
  A computer,a recorder, a tape
  运用多媒体设计课堂,可以实现目标语言的直观化,多样化,多维化。这正好适合于初中学生好奇心强的心理特点,可吸引学生的注意,培养他们的学习兴趣。
  录音机可以把纯正地道的英语带入课堂,创设学习英语的氛围。
  Ⅴ. Learning and Teaching Arrangement
  Step ILead-in.
  Lead the lesson by showing a picture of Yao Ming. Say, “Do you know him?” Students may answer Yes. “ Who is he?And what does he do?” Students who like basketball may answer “He is Yao Ming, and he is a basketball player.” Then the teacher keeps asking “Why can he play basketball? Why can’t he play ping-pong?”Some of the students may know the answer, and they will say “Because he is very tall.” “Yes, very good. He is very tall so he can play basketball.”
  通过预习,学生会很自然地会运用所会词汇对外貌特征进行简单的描述,而自然的导入本单元的话题。
  Then the teacher invites three students, who are tall, medium height and short respectively ,to the front of the classroom. Make a comparison. Lead students to say out tall and short. And then tell them the student who is standing in the middle of the other two is of medium height.
  T:“Quan Chen is tall. Wang Yi is of medium height. Kang Ruiheng is short.” Students say it along with the teacher several times.
  Next the teacher invites other three students come to the blackboard and do the same thing as above. Make a comparison.
  T:“Wang Yaqian is thin. Zhang Jiarui is of medium build. Guo Mingyang is heavy. But he is also cute.”
  At last, the teacher invites three girls. Discuss what kind of hairstyles they have. “Zhu Yu has short hair. Kelly has long hair. Yang Yun has curly hair. Ma Jian has straight hair.”
  T:I am of medium height, and I am thin. I have long hair and curly hair. What do you look like?
  Then let students practice the sentence like this. Play the CHAIN game. Let students say it one by one.
  T:What do you look like? Wang Jia
  W:I’m short and I’m thin. I have short hair.
  T:What does he look like?
  S:He is short, and he is thin. He has short hair.
  Ask two more students questions like this. Lead the students to use “he/she”.
  Groupwork . Let students practice this dialogue in group 4.Then act out.
  Step IIPlay a Game.
  Ask students to draw one of his or her friends or family members. Then describe him or her to the others. Meanwhile, the teacher invites two students to draw on the blackboard.
  Step ⅢNew Words and Expressions
  1.Using pictures of different people with different kinds of hairstyles and learn how to describe the hairstyle.
  2.Hehair.(long, short, straight, curly, black,brown, blonde etc.)
  3.Show pictures of three persons of different height: tall, short and medium height and teach students to describe their height using He is _______.(tall, short , of medium height)
  4.Show three people with different builds and teach He is thin/heavy/of medium build.
  5.Look at the pictures and practice reading and try to remember how to describe hairstyle , height and build of a person in English.
  6.Deal with 2a as written work.
  这样设计的目的是使学生一开始就对怎样描写头发、身高,体形有一个清楚的印象,避免混淆。突破难点 is 和 has 的不同用法。
  Step ⅣPractice
  Show the information on screen and ask the students to remember the information, and then say sentences as many as possible to describe the person. Let students play the game by the screen.
  Students look at the pictures on the screen for one minute and try to remember the information, and then say sentences as many as possible to describe the person.
  此设计的目的是“挑战记忆力”。训练学生对词汇的短时记忆,及对本课语言知识点的掌握情况。同时也是对目标语言的深化。
