  Ⅰ、Introduction
With the development of society, People have realized English level becomes a main aspect to measure people’s comprehensive quality. So English learning is a key requirement in current situation. But when it comes to learning English, people have doubts about what the best way to study and teach English is. Although most educators have done plenty of researches, these methods are only better than before. Nowadays, science and technology have developed swiftly; modern technology is applied in school field. It is necessary for students to study independently and cooperatively. Students’ active learning under new curriculum teaching has become an important direction of the education reform. Therefore this paper on the basis of teaching methods and experience researches discusses the comparison of traditional and new curriculum teaching.
  Ⅱ、Definitions
Traditional teaching: it is known as "teaching to accepting" which was widely used in schools ago. It is mainly concerned about the teachers’ imparting knowledge to students and the teachers are the controller; instructors and decision makers in class. They regard students as “knowledge holes” that need to be filled with information. In short, it is the teacher that causes learning to occur. The typical teaching method is Mantangguan and Spoon Feeding.
New curriculum teaching: it is known as a new type of teaching method, which is so suitable for the development of society. The teachers are required to highlight-“All for the students, for all the students and for the students all” humanism philosophy and advocated “people-oriented” teaching philosophy. In addition, it is not only emphasis the students’ basic knowledge and skills development, but also pays attention to students’ learning strategies and culture awareness, and promotes students’ non-intelligent factors. However, under new curriculum teaching, students play an important role. The typical teaching methods are task-based language teaching and communicative teaching.
  Ⅲ、Comparisons
  A、Teaching methods
1、Learning by Doing VS. By Teaching
Traditional teaching is teacher-oriented; students are in a passive position. In the five-step language teaching (revision, presentation, drill, practice and consolidation), the teacher control the students’ knowledge. However, new curriculum teaching is student-oriented; Students are in a positive position. In TBLT learners don’t acquire the target language in sequence; however teacher and textbooks organize it. Language learning is a developmental, organic process that follows its own internal agenda.
2、Focusing on meaning VS. On form
Traditional language learning has been regarded as a process of mastering a succession of steps, each one depend on the other. Teachers present the target language in ready-to-assimilate pieces. Start from easy to difficult. Students must master each part and incorporate it into the target language. TBLT acknowledges that motivation; attitudes and learning anxiety have more effects on learning than materials. Therefore, we need to take these into account in classrooms; TBLT gives us the opportunity to promote a “student-centered” learning environment. If we can stimulate a need and desire to learn, learning will take place in an enjoyable and exciting way.
  B、Role-plays
According to Fu Daochun, teachers’ roles are not static. Traditional teaching is teacher-oriented. Teachers as controllers: Teachers rely on students’ feedback and response to evaluate their understanding and adjust teaching strategies to achieve expected purposes of instruction. In this teaching, teachers are the instructors of class. They are pouring knowledge to students. In short, the whole class is surrounded by teachers. But under new curriculum, teachers are put on new roles. a) Teachers as facilitators: it stipulates that the teacher should function as a facilitator to students’ learning rather than transmitting knowledge. b) Teachers as guides: Their responsibilities are to activate students’ prior knowledge; find each student’s interests and explore their potential capabilities; acknowledge and respect their differences; give them equal opportunities in learning; and evaluate their development fairly. c) Teachers as researchers: Good teachers are not those with experience, but with rational thinking. They always reflect on themselves. With systematic reflections and research, they improve their teaching and students’ learning.
C、Requirements of teachers’ and students’ quality
Traditional teaching reminds teachers to have good quality and is fond of teaching, especially, with rich experience and professional skills. It is a kind of exam-oriented educational system. In class, Students should work hard, they should only listen to the teachers carefully and understand what they have learned, because that knowledge will appear in examination. New curriculum books need them to know professional knowledge and a wide range of knowledge well versed in other areas. 1) Teachers should concentrate on the students’ all- round development. During the teaching, they should believe that every student has potential ability, inspiring and developing students’ interest in learning. 2) Teachers should concentrate on developing students’ integrative skills. Under new curriculum teaching, Students’ participation is a main line from beginning to the end. We should focus on their listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities. 3) Teachers should be “people-oriented, comprehensive development” of teaching philosophy. They should not only pay attention to the importance of knowledge transfer and capacity-building, but also should stimulate and develop students’ interest so that they can establish their self-confidence, enhance their study habits and develop their effective strategies and even to improve their independent learning ability and co-operation spirit.
  Ⅳ、The combination of two modes
After survey, the combination of two methods can be achieved by a perfect combination of students’ self-access learning and teachers’ teaching in classroom. “Teaching means much more than passing on knowledge. It is very important to promote the students’ ability of language”. The combination of two modes cannot be restricted by places. It can start through both in class teaching and self-learning extracurricular class. So whether students study actively and effectively is related to improving students’ languages acquire ability.
