“There,s a mother in PICU(儿童重症监护病房)who wants to talk about a kit she received.”the nurse told me.“Something about it made her cry.”

I’ve been a child-1ife specialist at the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital since 2000.I helpfamilies understand diagnoses and treatment plans and manage the ups and downs that come with caring for a sick child.Tough talks with parents are part of the job, which still makes me feel nervous.

The kitsthe nurse was talking about were something I had recently introduced to the hospital:Comfort Kits from Guideposts. They were supposed to make a child’s experience here easier, not upsetting.

When I came across the kits at a conference.I fell in love with them.A treasure box of items designed not only to entertain kids, but to comfort and inspire them. There’s a coloring book,a stress ball,a CD of relaxing music,a hairy star named Sparkle,a journal and much more.I really believed these kits would help kids.I wished I hadn’t been mistaken.

At the patient’s room in PICU I saw a little girl, sleeping soundly, surrounded by tubes and machines. My eyes met her mother's.The kit was open on her lap and tears were running down her cheeks.

“I'm Shannon.I manage the Child Life Department.”I said.“I'm sorry if the kit upset you. It’s a new item?”

The mother shook her head.“This has been one of the worst days of my life.I felt so scared and alone. Then I was handed this box.I know it’s for my daughter, but it's just the comfort I needed.I wanted to say thank you.”

With that I knew Comfort Kits belonged here. We’ve been using them for almost three years now. Each child who’s admitted to the hospital receives one.Every day I see kids coloring, journaling, playing with Sparkle.

But as this mom showed me Comfort Kits aren’t just for kids. The hope they bringis felt by the whole family.

24.The author introduced Comfort Kits to the hospital to_________.

A.relax nurses

C.comfort parents B.benefit sick kids D.cure kids of diseases

B.She felt alone and scared.

D.She worried about her kid’s illness. 25.Why was the girl’s mother crying? A.She was moved to tears. C.She couldn’t wake her kid.

A.kits are in great need in hospitals

B.there may be lack of hope in hospitals

Two European Summer Must ‘Seas’

When you think of summer, the beach, clear water, sunny skies, and relaxing days are a few things that come to mind, and two of the best places to experience these summer feels are two gorgeous European bodies of water:the Mediterranean Sea and the Adriatic Sea! These two incredible Seas hold some of my favorite travel memories.and I would revisit each one in a heart beat!

The Mediterranean Sea

The Mediterranean Sea can be accessed from various European countries as well as a few North African countries. And while many think of visiting Ibiza,Malta,or the Greek islands

to experience the Mediterranean,my Mediterranean beach days came while visiting the seaside city of Marseille in the South of France! Marseille was a lovely city with easy access to the Sea,also with pretty sandy beaches. The gorgeous crystal clear blue water made it unlike any beach day in America! Not only were the beaches amazing, but the city of Marseille was adorable and filled with numerous cute shops and seaside restaurants. And the Mediterranean-style food was delicious!

The Adriatic Sea

The Adriatic Sea is equally as stunning and surely worth a visit! The Croatian coast has numerous beach clubs, some private and some public, that tourists are able to visit and you can experience the beauty of the Adriatic Sea there! Zrce Novalja,a Croatian seaside town I visited, was impressively featured by the rather rocky beach in place of sand. The rocks were small and smooth, making swimming in the sea and wading in the water just as easy as sandy beaches! Plus the locals in Croatia are also extremely friendly, making the experience even more memorable.

Helsinki is offering young people the chance to rent a cheap apartment in an old people?s home,if they agree to spend time socialising with the elderly residents.

The city council is seeking applications from renters under the age of 25 who will commit to spending between three and five hours each week with their older neighbours,at a care home in the eastern Laajasalo district. In exchange, they?ll get a studio flat measuring 23 square meters with a private kitchen, bathroom and balcony for 250 euros per month.

Currently only three flats are available.but the scheme is part of a wider effort to deal with a lack of accommodation for young people in the capital.Ordinarily a studio costs about 600 euros a month, depending on the area, one local university advises.

Those who apply don?t need any specific care experience.“There are staff to look after the elderly.”project manager Miki Mielonen tells Yle.“We are looking for young people who maybe have a different perspective on everyday life, who will bring variety and recreation to the elderly residents.”

More than 60 people have applied for the spaces in less than a week, and the idea has also been widely recognized by Finns on social media.“Great project, hopefully it will spread to other areas,”writes one person on Facebook, while another applauds the scheme for bringing different generations together.

But some wish it was open to more people, with one user saying:“It's a shame the flats are so small. It would have been nice if the elderly had a small family with children or a single parent as their neighbour.”And one person has a different opinion about the cut-off age, writing:”

24.One can probably get the cheap apartment if he___________.

A.reaches the age of 25 B.has financial problems

D.agrees to share it C.promises to accompany the elderly

25.Why is the new rent scheme accepted?

B.He has a chance to apply again.

C.He disapproves of the age limit.

D.He applies for the flat without hesitation.

27.What would be the best title of the text?

The metro system in London, widely known as the Tube,is the world’s oldest underground railway. However,it's mole than just a transport system.

It is not unusual to see people reading thick books on the Tube, crowded at the door during rush hour. But there’s another way Londoners enjoy literature on the underground,as poems are scattered around randomly.

The project of the poems has been running since 1986 and poems appear three times a year, six at a time. Two of the poems are always written by living poets.American writer Judith Cherniak, editor and founder of Poems on the Underground, said that most of them are chosen randomly, either from great poets or from unknown enthusiasts of English poetry.

Conceived(构思)by Cherniak, these poems aim to bring poetry to passengers, and show a wide range of styles. They are classical or contemporary, domestic or international.

Love or hate poetry, this project“has proved to be an excellent way of introducing poetry, with passengers often wanting to read more,”according to the government organization Transport for London.“This has led to the publication of a series of Poems on the Underground books, which is now in its 11th edition.”

This new edition contains poems that have been displayed in carriages over the years. The poems are classified into sections such as love, music, nature, war, and loss.

“Our Tube system has become quite the bastion(堡垒)of British culture,”The London Insider magazine commented.

A Finnish city is handing out‘‘survival packs” to new arrivals to its universities and colleges, taking inspiration from the country’s famous baby starter boxes. The city of Lahti has packaged up a selection of essentials for new students, helped by contributions from local businesses, national broadcaster Yle reports.More than 1,000 students have received one of the packs so far.And just like the parcels given to pregnant mothers across the country,Lahti’s offering comes in a cardboard box.

Among the items new students will find inside is a bus pass for trips around the city, some locally produced sheets and socks, and a pack of porridge,Yle says.Students can also put in the popular Nordic snack salmiakki. The survival pack is meant to introduce students to the delights of Lahti while also serving as a marketing opportunity for businesses in the city.

“There has been some swapping going on,”says Rosberg from Lahti University of Applied Sciences, adding that someone was willing to swap their porridge for some ice hockey tickets.Ms Rosberg adds that other cities have also been in touch to enquire about the packs.

While Yle reports that students have been giving the box various reviews, local newspaper Etela has a few ideas for some useful additions. After 900 reports of bicycle thefts in Lahti last year, the paper thinks a bike lock would be pretty handy. And because of many students’fondness for a drink, they suggest a bottle of orange juice is included as a guaranteed cure for drunkenness.

28.What would be the best title of the passage?

A.Survival packs for new students

C.Lahti’s gift for new comers

29.What are“survival packs”expected to do for the students?
